Communities for People’s outpatient counseling and wellness services offers compassionate, inclusive, and client-centered care to individuals, couples, and families. With extensive experience in trauma-informed care, mood disorders, relationship concerns, identity exploration, and life transitions, we integrate evidence-based approaches such as MI, CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, ACT, narrative therapy, and mindfulness. We are committed to creating safe, affirming, and culturally responsive spaces, including bilingual Spanish and Cape Verdean Creole-language services and dedicated support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Together, we help clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and move toward healing and growth.
Communities for People Counseling and Wellness is a group practice consisting of ten therapists, Mallory Moniz, LCSW, Courtney Campbell, LCSW, Kathryn Thomas, LMHC-A, Jessie Justin, LMHC-A, Kaitlyn Gaspar, LMHC-A, Gabriela Cohen, LCSW, Robert Cruz, LCSW, Jennifer Allen, LCSW, Enilda Cortes, LMHC and Allison Krebs, LICSW with oversight of a clinical director Emily Buckbee Carey, LICSW and administrative support from Veronica Retana, BSW.
About our Clinical Director: Emily Buckbee Carey is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker based in North Providence, Rhode Island. She specializes in trauma-informed care and anger management, and works with individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, grief, anger, and relationship challenges. Emily also supports individuals and families involved in the adoption and foster care systems.
Her therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Supportive Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Enhancement Therapy/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Five Sessions (MET/CBT5). She frequently uses MET/CBT5 with clients seeking to change challenging behaviors.
Since earning her Master’s in Social Work from Rhode Island College, Emily has gained extensive experience in both the child welfare system and private practice. She works with teenagers, young adults, college students, and adults.
A clinical supervisor since 2010, Emily provides supervision for interns and pre-licensed professionals, supporting the next generation of social workers.

Adolescent mental health - Working with adolescents, teenagers, and parents on social, academic, and/or emotional challenges throughout teenage years; addressing anxiety, family conflicts, peer relationships, school stress, transition to college, social media pressures, self-esteem, hopelessness about the future, emotional disregulation
Adoption & foster care - Support around pre- and post-adoption challenges including family dynamics, challenging behaviors, attachment issues, and navigation of the child welfare system or adoption agencies
Attachment issues - Development of effective relational and communication skills; insight into family attachment patterns;fostering healthy family relationships.
Child mental health - Specialized strategies for common childhood disorders including attention issues, attachment problems, behavioral disorders, learning disorders, autism spectrum diagnoses, and feeding or elimination issues.
Life transitions - Coping with difficult or impactful life changes, such as moving to a new area, relationship transitions, child rearing, or career changes; learning self-care to better manage resulting stress
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
