Hi! If you've been searching for non-pathologizing and integrative therapy, where you're treated like a human being rather than a number or a diagnosis, we're so glad you're here. Root & Return Wellness is a trauma-informed and person-centered therapy practice offering both in-person and online therapy across Connecticut. Our collective of soulful and skilled therapists provides support for teens, adults, couples, and families seeking care for an array of challenges, including (but not limited to) anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, identity exploration, loss, life transitions, or even simply trying to make sense of what you may be feeling. Therapy here is collaborative and grounded in the understanding that healing happens through attuned connection. Our therapists integrate evidence-based psychotherapy with holistic, mind-body approaches, honoring the whole person: mind, body, and spirit.
At Root & Return Wellness, we truly believe that meaningful change does not come from "fixing what is broken", but from reconnecting with the wisdom and leadership already within you. Through a trauma-informed, nervous system-aware lens, clients begin to relate to both pain and possibility with greater clarity and compassion. Therapy becomes more than insight. It becomes a process of returning to yourself and building a more harmonious relationship with your inner world. Over time, many clients experience greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and a deeper sense of connection within themselves and in their relationships.
We work with individuals (teens, young adults, and adults), couples, and families who are ready to move beyond patterns of survival and into lives guided by awareness, authenticity, and compassion. Many arrive seeking relief from anxiety, disconnection, or relational pain, yet what they discover is something deeper: a reconnection with their own inner wisdom and the capacity to meet life with empowered and grounded presence.
We help individuals, couples, and families navigating an array of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, identity exploration, grief, loss, life transitions, or even simply trying to make sense of what you may be feeling. Many clients come to us struggling with self-criticism, shame, people-pleasing, relationship difficulties, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others. We also support those exploring identity, purpose, belonging, early attachment wounds, family-of-origin dynamics, and adoption-related experiences, offering trauma-informed and person-centered therapy that honors each person’s story.
Our integrative therapy draws from a range of approaches, including (but not limited to), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Attachment-Based Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), somatic therapy, and mindfulness practices to support nervous system awareness and deeper emotional healing. We also incorporate Person-Centered Therapy, creating a compassionate, collaborative space where clients can explore their inner world, reconnect with their body’s wisdom, and move toward meaningful personal growth.
With accepted insurance plans, you are only responsible for your plan's co-payment. For out-of-pocket payments, we accept major credit cards and HSA cards. We also offer a free consultation so you can sense whether it's the right fit before getting started, as we firmly believe that finding the right fit is essential for truly resonant and impactful care.
Root & Return Wellness accepts several major health insurance plans for therapy in Connecticut, though coverage depends on each therapist’s credentialing and the plans they are in-network with. If your therapist is out-of-network, we can provide a superbill for potential insurance reimbursement. We recommend verifying your mental health insurance benefits before starting therapy to understand your coverage, copay, deductible, and out-of-network options. Insurance accepted may vary by therapist, but commonly includes Medicaid/Husky, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Cigna/Evernoth.
What makes Root & Return different is the way we approach the work itself. Root & Return was created as a space where therapy is not reduced to symptom management or a quick clinical fix. Our work is relational, trauma informed, and nervous system aware. We hold the belief that healing happens when people feel safe enough to be fully seen, heard, and understood as whole human beings.
Clients who come to Root & Return are often looking for something that feels more human and more grounded than traditional therapy settings. They want a therapist who understands the impact of trauma, life transitions, identity, grief, and the complexity of being a person in the world right now. They want a space where the mind, body, and lived experience are all respected. We are collaborative in our approach, meaning your voice, your story, and your pace matter in the process.
