Professional statement

Dr. Manwaring works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the aftereffects of overwhelming or destabilizing events. Many of the people he sees are high-functioning but exhausted — managing responsibilities while internally feeling stuck, reactive, or unable to settle. His work focuses on helping clients understand that feel stuck and gradually restoring a sense of steadiness.

His therapeutic approach blends practical understanding with depth work. He uses EMDR and parts-informed therapy to help the brain process areas that have remained unresolved, while also helping clients make sense of their reactions in everyday life. Sessions move at a manageable pace and aim for meaningful change rather than temporary coping strategies.

Since 2018, Dr. Manwaring has worked across inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, and university settings with both adolescents and adults. He completed advanced interdisciplinary training through the Utah Regional Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (URLEND) program and was a recipient of the Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership (VANAP) scholarship during his doctoral training. He has also taught in graduate mental health programs and served as a consultant on medical-legal cases.

He offers telehealth therapy for adults throughout Idaho, allowing clients to attend sessions from home with privacy and flexibility. Availability varies, and prospective clients are encouraged to reach out to discuss fit and scheduling.

Message to clients

Starting therapy often happens at a point where something no longer settles on its own. A loss, a betrayal, or a shift in life can leave reactions lingering — thoughts looping, sleep changing, or emotions showing up stronger than expected. It can also feel difficult to explain to people close to you, either because words don’t quite fit or because it feels easier to keep functioning than to keep talking about it.

In our work, there isn’t pressure to tell everything immediately or to have a clear goal from the start. We begin with what’s most present and move at a pace your system can tolerate. Some sessions involve understanding patterns and reactions in everyday life; others involve carefully processing experiences so they stop feeling unfinished.

I use approaches like IFS or EMDR when it’s helpful, but the focus isn’t on techniques as much as helping things make sense and gradually feel more settled. The aim isn’t to force change, but to allow it to take shape in a way that lasts.
