Professional statement

Karyn Horowitz, MD is a board-certified child & adolescent and general psychiatrist who works with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families. She provides therapy and medication management for anxiety, depression, mood disorders, stress related to school, work, or life transitions, relationship challenges, and other complex mental health conditions. She has extensive experience helping individuals with emotion regulation, suicidal thoughts, and relationship struggles, supporting them in both symptom management and building skills to feel more stable, confident, and connected. She also works closely with parents and adults managing parenting challenges or family stress and offers consultations and second opinions for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.

Dr. Horowitz’s approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based care. She integrates psychotherapy with medication management when appropriate, using therapies such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), family therapy, and interpersonal therapy. Treatment focuses on building skills, increasing insight, and strengthening relationships in a supportive, respectful, and non-judgmental environment where patients and families feel heard and engaged.

She collaborates closely with schools, pediatricians, therapists, and other community providers to support success outside of her office, including school advocacy for children, teens, and young adults.

Dr. Horowitz brings over 20 years of experience and has held leadership roles at Bradley Hospital, including Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs, and at Brown University Health as Director of Outpatient Child Psychiatry and Behavioral Health. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and has received multiple teaching awards. She is often a good fit for individuals and families seeking a collaborative, experienced clinician who provides therapy, medication management, parent and adult support, and guidance for complex diagnostic or treatment questions with a non-judgmental approach.

Message to clients

Coming to therapy takes a lot of strength and it can make you feel vulnerable to share such important parts of yourself with someone that you do not know well (in the beginning). It isn't something that works quickly, but there can be some immediate relief. You will not be on your journey alone, and if you aren't in a hopeful place, I can hold the hope while you are working to get there. By engaging in this important work together I can support you to become a stronger, healthier, and more connected version of yourself. If I am supporting your family, we will work for you to have a greater understanding of, and feel more connected to, each other.
