Dr. Robert Kitts is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who has been caring for patients in the Boston area for nearly 20 years. He works primarily with young adults (ages 18–35), including college and graduate students, as well as recent graduates. Dr. Kitts offers therapy, medication management, or a combination of both, depending on each patient’s needs.
He is licensed in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire—making him an excellent fit for students who live or attend school in any of these states.
Dr. Kitts draws from a range of therapeutic approaches to best support his clients, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, positive psychology, supportive therapy, and mindfulness practices. His work focuses on helping individuals manage stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, academic challenges, identity exploration, and LGBTQ+ issues.
Dr. Kitts earned his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He completed his General Psychiatry Residency at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland and his Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital (2007–2009). Before focusing on private practice, he held positions at Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

"Dr. Kitts is one of the most thoughtful and invested psychiatrists I have ever met and worked with. His style is warm and accessible despite his extensive knowledge and expertise. He keeps updated on the latest research findings and treatment trends on a regular base. Dr. Kitts takes the time to know his clients in the context of their lives and makes careful treatment recommendations in partnership with his clients and their families. Even though the expertise of psychiatrists is to prescribe psychotropic medication, through his intimate knowledge of the American Psychiatric Association’s practice guidelines, Dr. Kitts will consider alternative explanations and treatments for his clients’ struggles, if those approaches will lead to the best outcomes with the least side effects. For all those reasons, Dr. Kitts is a great clinician and therapist."
