Aly Livingston-Shelburne is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist based out of Denver, Colorado who works with clients across the lifespan in both Colorado and in Texas. Clients seek support for emotional regulation, identity exploration, managing peer relationships and learning independent living skills. Aly works with adults and parents seeking support for life transitions such as moves, career changes, or improving their personal/family relationships. Aly has advanced training in play and sandtray therapy techniques and has completed training which supports a trauma-informed care approach.
Aly uses a humanistic and solution-focused approach to providing therapy which emphasizes a client's strengths and personal growth. In session, Aly will focus on the symptoms or issues causing the client distress and help them both explore the various factors impacting their current sense of well-being as well as identify the steps they can take to help them reach their goals. This approach meets the client where they are at and identifies goals in a collaborative manner.
Aly's style is eclectic and she will use techniques/interventions from various approaches depending on the client's needs and stated goals. When a client comes in for their intake appointment, part of that time will be spent identifying goals and having a conversation about the treatment plan and potential strategies or interventions (ie cognitive-behavioral, sandtray, acceptance and commitment interventions, etc). Aly is dedicated to creating a safe therapeutic space and building a trusting egalitarian relationship with her clients.
Aly received her BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and her MA in Professional Counseling from Texas State University at San Marcos. She has had experience working with youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system. She has worked in a private practice setting since 2019.
