Ami Susewitz, LMSW, is a Licensed Master Social Worker providing secure telehealth therapy through Mentella Health, serving clients across Illinois and PSYPACT states. She works with a diverse clientele that includes adolescents, young adults, adults, couples, and families navigating a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. Her clinical focus includes anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, maternal mental health, bipolar disorder, family conflict, and stress management. Ami is especially attuned to individuals experiencing major life transitions, including perinatal and postpartum periods, identity shifts, and evolving family roles.

Her therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practice. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma-related healing, and attachment-based and family systems frameworks to explore relational dynamics. She also draws from Emotionally Focused and interpersonal approaches to strengthen emotional awareness, communication, and connection within relationships. Across modalities, Ami emphasizes creating a safe, supportive space where clients can better understand themselves and build practical tools for emotional resilience and daily functioning.

Ami brings a deeply relational and client-centered perspective to her work, shaped by her experience supporting individuals and families through complex emotional and developmental stages. Her background includes extensive work with women’s and maternal mental health concerns, as well as broader experience addressing anxiety, depression, and trauma across the lifespan. She prioritizes understanding each client within their unique family, cultural, and life context, ensuring that care is both personalized and holistic.

Message to clients

Before starting therapy with me, it may be helpful to know that I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are navigating a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. Many of the people I support come to therapy during periods of transition, stress, or emotional overwhelm, including experiences related to anxiety, depression, trauma, postpartum and maternal mental health, and family or relationship difficulties. I provide telehealth sessions in a space that is collaborative and paced according to your comfort, meaning we move at a speed that allows you to feel safe, understood, and actively involved in your own healing process.

In my work, I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma, and family systems and attachment-based frameworks to better understand patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships. I also incorporate emotionally focused and interpersonal techniques to help strengthen communication, emotional awareness, and connection. While I use structured tools and strategies, I also prioritize flexibility and personalization therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all, but shaped around your unique needs and goals.

My hope is that therapy feels like a grounded and supportive space where you can be honest about what you are going through without judgment. I aim to help you build practical coping skills while also making sense of deeper emotional experiences and relationship patterns. Most importantly, I hope you leave sessions feeling more empowered, more connected to yourself, and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.
