Professional statement

You're unique, and it's my job to tailor my expertise to your individual needs for psychotherapy, or divorce mediation.

As licensed Clinical Psychologist or as well-trained Divorce Mediator, I'm known for my compassionate, yet no-nonsense style and plain talk that avoids jargon and waffling.

Clinical Psychologist -- I'll give you tools, strategies, and help to craft a plan to take control of your life with lasting positive changes. I work with individuals from 20 to 90, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. My specialties include: relationship issues; divorce, and other difficult life transitions; depression and anxiety; trauma history, especially in women; low self-esteem, and lack of assertiveness; compassion fatigue and stress; grief and loss, including death of pets.

Divorce Mediator -- I don’t provide legal advice or psychotherapy. I do offer guidance how to: part with less hurt, anger, and bitterness; get ready for separate lives; reach equitable property settlements; and develop flexible, child-focused parenting plans.

My Background -- For many years I've maintained a private practice in northern RI. I'm credentialed by Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT®) to practice telepsychology across 42 state boundaries via a HIPAA-compliant telepsychology program. Earlier in my clinical career I was admissions director at Pederson-Krag mental health center in Huntington, NY.; and later a consulting staff psychologist at Rehabilitation Hospital of RI where I led groups for patients coping with return-to-work issues and fibromyalgia.

Before becoming "Doctor Frank," I was an award-winning reporter and columnist for Fort Lauderdale News & Sun-Sentinel (FL). More recently, I wrote a weekly self-help column, “Frankly Speaking,” for the Valley Breeze newspapers (RI).

Education -- Providence College, RI (B.A., English); University of Missouri-Columbia (M.A., Journalism); Nova Southeastern University, FL (Psy.D., Clinical Psychology); and Roger Williams University School of Law, RI (training course in family/divorce mediation).

Message to clients

Every day, individuals of all ages and walks of life entrust me with their innermost fears, sorrows, and dreams. They count on me to guide them to a place of hope, to help them find meaning and purpose, and to teach them skills to cope. To the best of my ability, I will guide you carefully through difficult emotional terrain to reach your goal.

My Clinical Practice is limited to private pay patients, and primarily virtual (Tuesdays 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., & Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.). But, if you have insurance coverage and your carrier reimburses for seeing non-network providers, then I will give you an invoice ("superbill") to submit to their billing office which verifies you paid fees to me out of pocket. Similarly, if you have a flexible spending account [FSA] or health savings account [HSA], I will give you the necessary paperwork to submit and/or to keep for your records. Also, per the federal "No Surprises Act," you will be given a "good faith estimate" [GFE] of my charges.

My Divorce Mediation practice is primarily virtual. Initially I meet couples for a free one-hour consult on a Wednesday (between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) to discuss the mediation process, divorce, and what they're seeking. After engaging my services, then we'll schedule mediation sessions between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
