Professional statement

Anna Reyes is a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in helping professional artists and creatives move from chronic self doubt, impostor syndrome, and burnout to feeling worthy, confident, clear, and empowered. Many of her clients have found professional success in creative or artistic industries, but find themselves constantly mired in anxiety, burnout, and chronic stress from the pressure of maintaining their craft and career.

Anna invites her clients to develop a deep understanding of their emotions and how they manifest physically, as they often hold inherent wisdom that our thoughts can block or “protect” us from. She allows clients to cultivate trust in their therapeutic alliance, and engages clients with compassion, creativity, humor, and collaboration. Anna's practice is anti-racist, sex positive, gender affirming, and trauma-informed.

Anna has particular interest in serving queer and BIPOC creatives and has extensive experience in healing post-traumatic symptoms, increasing clients' self worth, and helping clients connect to their agency and power. Anna utilizes a relational and somatic approach that prioritizes the body’s (and subsequently the mind’s) innate drive to heal. Many clients appreciate Anna’s thoughtful questions that help them to understand their struggles with more compassion and nuance, and also appreciate her warm and steady presence while traversing difficult emotions.

Anna offers remote therapy to residents of New York. She is welcome to any questions or inquires about her practice.

Message to clients

You, a working artist or creative professional, might be crumbling under the pressure of your competitive, fast-paced industry. Some part of you knows that your artistry, your craft, your technique are highly valued, but your inner critic can be so loud that it blocks you from feeling connected to your worth and empowered to meet your own needs.

I believe that artists and creatives create deep beauty, meaning, and solidarity in an increasingly isolating, chaotic, and frightening world. That’s why I find deep fulfillment in helping artists and creatives reconnect to their power and worth.

Using somatic (the body) and relational (person- to-person) techniques, I'll guide you in finding the innate wisdom of your mind-body to heal, understand, and connect with yourself. Our first sessions will be spent cultivating trust and exploring what brings you to therapy, what you already understand about your issues, and what changes you want to experience. I aim to instill a sense of hope and relief in the very first session.

As we progress through treatment, I'll introduce concepts and practices that will help you to gain more awareness of your emotional experience to approach yourself with more compassion. We explore and name how your individual experience overlaps with broader systems you are a part of (your partner, your industry, your community, your socio-economic history, for ex.) As we explore these themes and how your past informs your present, we'll cultivate a healing relationship that allows you to embody your power.
