Professional statement

Bea von Watzdorf is a licensed professional counselor with more than 20 years of experience helping adults navigate complex relationships, anxiety, trauma, and major life transitions. Many of her clients are thoughtful, capable people who have been carrying a great deal for a long time. On the outside, they may seem steady and successful. On the inside, they often feel overwhelmed, worn down, or unsure how their relationships became so painful or confusing.

A central focus of Bea's practice is working with individuals recovering from narcissistic or emotionally manipulative relationships. These patterns are often subtle and disorienting. Clients describe chronic blame, shifting standards, gaslighting, emotional unpredictability, or feeling responsible for someone else’s moods. Over time, this can erode self-trust and create deep anxiety or self-doubt. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what happened — without judgment or minimization. Bea helps clients rebuild confidence in their own perceptions, strengthen boundaries, and step out of cycles of over-accommodating or over-explaining.

Bea also works with anxiety, trauma (including relational and complex trauma), grief, existential questions about identity and direction, and life transitions such as divorce, career changes, or parenting shifts. Rather than focusing only on symptom relief, she helps clients understand the patterns underneath their stress — what developed as protection, what no longer serves them, and what is ready to change.

Her approach blends practical tools with thoughtful reflection. Drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and extensive trauma-informed experience, she helps clients calm anxiety, regulate emotional responses, and develop stronger self-leadership. The goal is not simply relief, but clarity — and the ability to move forward with steadiness and self-trust.

Bea offers virtual therapy for clients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington, DC, as well as in-person sessions in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable — especially if you’re used to being the strong one, the capable one, the one others turn to. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. My hope is that from the first conversation, you feel steady, respected, and not questioned or dismissed.

Many of the people I work with are coming out of relationships where they felt confused, blamed, or slowly worn down. If you’ve experienced gaslighting, shifting standards, or subtle control, you may find yourself second-guessing your own instincts. In our work together, we slow things down. We make sense of what happened. We help your nervous system settle. And little by little, you begin trusting yourself again.

My hope is that you leave therapy feeling more solid in who you are — clearer about what you need, more comfortable holding boundaries, and less afraid to take up space. Real change often isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about coming home to yourself. There is a steady, wise part of you that has always been there — even if it’s been buried under stress or survival. Therapy can be a place of renewal, where that deeper strength rises again and you move forward with clarity, courage, and a sense of peace.
