Professional statement

Becky Hellwig is a licensed clinical social worker who works with individuals navigating trauma, dissociation, and the lasting impact of chronic stress. She often supports people who are high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck internally. Many of her clients have tried therapy before and are looking for something that feels more effective, more personalized, and more attuned to what they’re actually experiencing.

Her approach to therapy is collaborative, grounded, and tailored to each person she works with. Becky integrates trauma-informed and body-based approaches, including somatic work, parts-based therapy, and DBT-informed skills. She believes that meaningful change happens when both the mind and body are included in the process, and she works with clients to build awareness, develop practical tools, and create lasting shifts over time. Sessions are active and supportive, with space for both deeper exploration and real-life application.

Becky has advanced training in trauma and dissociation, including work with complex presentations such as DID. She also incorporates EMDR-informed techniques and offers additional somatic-based options, such as the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Rest and Restore, for clients interested in nervous system-focused work. Her goal is to create a space where clients feel understood, supported, and able to move forward at a pace that feels both safe and productive.

She offers both in-person sessions in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as well as virtual sessions for clients across the state. Becky also provides a limited number of reduced-fee sessions through her intern program, where interns work under her close supervision to ensure quality, thoughtful care.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve tried before and it didn’t quite get to the root of things. Many of the people I work with come to me after feeling like nothing else has fully worked—they’ve done the work, they have insight, and they’re still feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed. If that’s you, you’re not alone—and it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It often just means you need an approach that meets you more fully.

My goal is to create a space that feels both safe and genuinely supportive, where you don’t have to perform, explain everything perfectly, or hold it all together. At the same time, I believe therapy should actually move you forward. I work actively and collaboratively, integrating insight with deeper, body-based work so that change isn’t just something you understand—it’s something you begin to feel and experience in your day-to-day life.

If you’re looking for a place where you can be met with both compassion and direction—and where the work can go deeper than what you’ve experienced before—I’d be glad to connect.

As my practice continues to grow, I’m excited to be bringing on a small number of carefully selected interns who will be offering reduced-fee sessions. Interns are closely supported through both individual and group supervision with me, and I remain actively involved in their clinical work to ensure thoughtful, high-quality care. This allows clients to access more affordable services while still benefiting from a structured and well-supported treatment approach.
