Professional statement

Betsy E. Riccio, LMHC is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts who works with individuals from diverse backgrounds to improve mental health and overall quality of life. She has extensive experience working with clients in forensic settings who are preparing to reintegrate into the community, addressing challenges such as anxiety, anger management, depression, problem-solving difficulties, and emotional regulation. Betsy is especially attuned to supporting all individuals of all ages and backgrounds, experiencing these same concerns.

Betsy’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based model that helps clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through this work, clients gain practical tools to recognize their physiological responses to stress and develop healthier, more intentional ways to respond rather than react when faced with challenges. Her goal is to help clients build moments of calm, clarity, and resilience in their daily lives. Betsy also utilizes strengths-based approaches, allowing individuals to build on what they already possess, making the best use of their assets.

Collaboration, prevention, and progress are central to Betsy’s work. Her style is interactive, nonjudgmental, and direct, emphasizing measurable growth and meaningful change. She works alongside clients to identify treatment goals, empowering them to make informed choices about their care and the direction of their personal growth. Betsy is mindful of how past experiences can shape present struggles and helps clients reframe their life narratives in ways that foster self-confidence, self-compassion, and empowerment.

Above all, Betsy prioritizes creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe, heard, and respected as equal partners in the process. She offers both in-person and remote therapy sessions, allowing flexibility and convenience while making mental health care a consistent and accessible part of clients’ lives.

Message to clients

Treatment can be whatever you want it to look like. My goal is to give you a safe place to "whine" and process stressors, change behaviors, develop coping skills, and help you put the pieces back together for a more manageable life. My role is to meet you where you are and work alongside you as an equal partner in your care. I work with people from all walks of life, including those navigating complex life transitions, justice-involved experiences, and the everyday challenges that can impact mental health and quality of life.

A therapeutic session can be from 45-60 minutes, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Treatment can involve just talking, practicing skills, or written activities and homework may be involved. Though motivation may differ for everyone, if willing to try, you will learn something. Just be prepared and come to the session with an open mind!

Before starting a session, insurances must be confirmed (Super Bills provided if your insurance is not accepted), identification is required and cash is always accepted.

Looking forward to meeting you and guiding you and remember, we all need a little support!!!
