Professional statement

Christopher Conway, M.Ed., LADC I is a Licensed Master’s Level Independent Provider with offices in downtown Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and Boston, Massachusetts. He began his career in Boston in 2010 and has since worked across multiple treatment settings throughout Massachusetts. In 2018, Mr. Conway earned his Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Counseling Psychology and Substance Abuse Counseling, and soon after obtained licensure as an Independent Alcohol and Drug Counselor in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Mr. Conway has extensive experience providing substance use psychotherapy and has served as a Clinical Case Manager, Clinical Supervisor, and Lead Clinician in a variety of treatment environments. His work includes both individual and group counseling, addressing trauma-informed care, relapse prevention, anger management, and related areas.

Dedicated to serving men, women, and children, Mr. Conway is especially passionate about supporting individuals impacted by trauma connected to racism, incarceration, and other lived experiences. He integrates a range of therapeutic approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing—while holding firmly to the belief that empathy, respect, and validation are vital to the healing process.

Message to clients

As a provider, I have had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who have experienced a wide range of challenges, including sexual trauma, childhood trauma, substance use, incarceration, and more. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that “the change is in the thinking, not the doing.” Real change begins with the way we view and understand our thoughts, because our thoughts shape our actions. Yet those thoughts are often influenced by past trauma, anxiety, depression, the environments we grew up in, or our relationships—and can hold us back from being our best selves.

My role is to help untangle those thoughts and work with you to create a personalized, practical plan for recovery. In a safe and supportive therapeutic environment, you will have space to share openly and begin the process of reshaping your thinking. While “change” may feel intimidating, it doesn’t have to be—it is simply the decision to do things differently, one step at a time.

I also incorporate alternative coping strategies and life skills into treatment, including role-playing, cognitive reframing, communication techniques, setting healthy boundaries, and building self-empowerment.

I recognize that not every therapist is the right fit for every client, but I would welcome the opportunity to explore whether working together could be the next step in your healing journey.
