Professional statement

Dr. Clair Siegman is a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults, with a particular focus on individuals and families navigating periods of transition, emotional overwhelm, and developmental complexity. Her clients are often thoughtful and high-functioning, yet may struggle internally with anxiety, frustration, identity shifts, or difficulties with emotional regulation. She has a particular interest in supporting families, helping parents better understand their child’s emotional experience while strengthening connection within the parent-child relationship.

Her therapeutic approach is grounded in attachment-based and psychodynamic principles, with an emphasis on building a collaborative and trusting relationship as the foundation for meaningful change. Dr. Siegman works at a thoughtful, individualized pace, helping clients develop insight into patterns in their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. With children, she integrates play-based and developmentally informed techniques, while maintaining close collaboration with parents to support growth beyond the therapy room. Her work is characterized by warmth, curiosity, and a deep respect for each client’s unique experience.

Dr. Siegman brings a depth of training across both international and U.S. contexts. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Rhodes University in South Africa and her Ph.D. from the City College of New York. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Child Guidance Clinic of Southern Connecticut and has worked in both school and clinical settings, providing therapy and conducting comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological evaluations.

She offers in-person sessions in Manhattan, as well as virtual therapy for individuals located throughout New York State.

Message to clients

Beginning therapy is often both a thoughtful and vulnerable step. You don’t need to have everything clearly defined before you arrive—many people come in with a general sense that something feels overwhelming, stuck, or hard to navigate alone. My hope is to offer a space that feels steady, warm, and genuinely collaborative, where we can begin to make sense of what you’re carrying at a pace that feels manageable. I’m not interested in rushing the process; instead, I aim to understand your experience in a way that feels meaningful and respectful of who you are.

In our work together, you can expect me to be actively engaged, curious, and attentive to both what is said and what may be harder to articulate. I work relationally, which means that the connection we build becomes an important part of the process. At times, we may gently notice patterns as they emerge, or explore how earlier experiences continue to shape your current relationships, emotions, and sense of self. With children and adolescents, I also work closely with parents, helping to create a shared understanding that supports growth both in and outside of sessions.

My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel genuinely understood and less alone in your experience. Over time, this can create space for greater clarity, emotional flexibility, and a deeper sense of confidence in how you relate to yourself and others.
