Professional statement

Growing up can be exciting—but it can also feel overwhelming. Between school, relationships, family expectations, and figuring out next steps, it’s easy to feel stressed, anxious, or stuck. Maybe you or your teen are navigating a tough transition, struggling with mental health concerns, or coping with trauma. Or maybe you’re a parent looking for new strategies to better support your child or communicate more effectively at home. Crosby Modrowski, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island who works with children, teens, young adults, and caregivers.

Dr. Modrowski earned her PhD from the University of Utah and completed both her residency and fellowship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Her background includes training in a range of evidence-based therapies specifically developmentally-tailored towards children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Modrowski has years of specialized experience in providing trauma-focused care, and frequently works with children and adolescents who have been exposed to abuse or trauma. She also has extensive experience supporting teens and young adults struggling with unsafe or high-risk behaviors, including substance use and suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Her therapeutic approach integrates several research-backed methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and, when appropriate, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Her goal is to create a collaborative, supportive space where clients feel understood, empowered, and equipped with practical tools to move forward.

Dr. Modrowski is a self-pay provider and does not bill insurance directly. She provides itemized receipts (superbills) that clients can submit to their insurance for possible reimbursement (some plans cover up to 80%, though this varies). Sliding scale options may also be available.

Message to clients

My overall goal is to provide children, adolescents, young adults, and caregivers skills to overcome the difficult emotions and behaviors that are causing disruptions in daily life. I take a non-judgmental and flexible approach with the overarching goal of working collaboratively to meet your goals.

For children and teen clients, I involve parents/caregivers to the greatest extent possible. Your perspective as a caregiver is invaluable, and your involvement in therapy is critical to your child’s success in therapy. At a minimum, I hope to have a brief check-in with parents at each appointment. If more time is needed to focus on parenting skills or the parent-child relationship, I am available for parent-only sessions.

So, how do we get started? First, we will meet to complete an initial intake appointment, during which I will gather background information and hear about your current concerns, as well as your long-term goals. During this appointment, I will also ask you/your child to complete standardized measures that will provide further insight into the current problems you and/or your child are facing. After the intake appointment, we will work together to create a tailored treatment plan. Our goals will be specific, measurable, and time-focused. Progress towards meeting treatment goals will be tracked on an ongoing basis, and we will adjust our goals if needed. We will decide together how often appointments will occur.
