Professional statement

It's a good time to work on healing. If you face trauma, addiction, and major life changes I am here to help. Some struggle with depression, ADHD, abuse recovery, religious trauma, reactions of loved ones to coming out, and much more. It is my job to help with those things. I'm good at it, and I bet you are good at being you. So let's combine our expertise.

Several Court-Ordered Services available as well, including substance abuse assessments, mental health evaluation, outpatient therapy, Prime For Life/DUI Classes, co-parenting, and parent-child reunification counseling. I provide evidence-based treatment and documentation to satisfy the requirements of the court or probation authorities.

I use modern treatment approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and other somatic techniques. Techniques like this help people with addiction, trauma, major life changes, and social skills. I am experienced with grief, loss, and major life disruptions. I am experienced working with Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, and individuals on the Autism Spectrum.

I work with many specific issues and presenting symptoms, looking through the lens of Trauma. Often we have problems that are triggered by our trauma. Often our problems can traumatize us as well. If you know what it's like to have struggle, or made choices, that feel like they've blown up your life, you can. give me a call.

The field of mental health is constantly evolving, and I feel strongly that therapists should be also. I have been producing The Broken Brain, a weekly psychology podcast, for 12 years.

You deserve success and peace. Let's make that happen.

Message to clients

We all go through times where we feel upset, overwhelmed, or afraid. Modern trauma therapy techniques allow options for healing and the chance to individualize your treatment plan. You don't need to be afraid anymore. We will work together in individual therapy to plan for recovery from Trauma, Addiction, and the effects of mental illness. I frequently work with Biploar Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, and individuals on the Autsim Spectrum.

I can help with Addiction recovery, Social Skills, Relationship-building, Emotional Regulation, Communication, and etc. using various tools. Modern therapy encompasses techniques like mind-body connection, focus on present elements of the trauma, and activity based techniques such as EMDR, IFS, Somatic work, and the use of games, TTRPGs, and various types of group workshops and individualized programs.

Specialties

Addiction - Addiction is almost always self-medication for trauma or other underlying issues. Important elements for healthy from addiction & dependence issues include reducing shame, and defining goals. Most people don't stop to figure out their own definition of "sobriety." As a Harm Reduction therapist I work with everyone to individualize their treatment plan. Let's find ways to address issues that you can be happy, healthy, and proud of.

ADHD - I have Bipolar Disorder & ADHD myself. ADHD is often accompanies by depression and relationship/rejection issues, as well as being at risk for traumatic experiences. Self-acceptance and a strengths based approach is an important part of ADHD treatment.

Autism spectrum disorder - Unfortunately many clinicians seem to be hesitant to engage with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, as if their issues are completely different than others. Although specific training and study are helpful, much of my knowledge about ASD comes from listening to my clients. I began my career in youth services, in a behavioral health unit focused on complicated dual diagnosis. We received the youth who were on the Autism spectrum. Working with these youth is among my favorite memories

Bipolar disorder - I have Bipolar Disorder & ADHD myself, and have worked with mood stabilization, identifying cycles, medication compliance goals, communication, relationship issues, and other elements of Neurodivergence in my own life. I love helping other with living a full life, embracing their strengths while managing their symptoms.

LGBTQIA, gender, & sexuality topics - I am a gender affirming and Queer allied therapist. This is important, as well as the only ethical way to practice. Many individuals also find rejection or religious trauma from other's reactions to their identity & orientation. I work often with Transgendered individuals going through the social, hormonal, and/or surgical Transition/Confirmation process.

Trauma - I am trained in multiple modalities of trauma recovery, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). Modern trauma approaches focus on individualizing a treatment strategy that works for you, instead of forcing you to work for the treatment model. Recovery is possible, and can be even better than you expect.
