Professional statement

Emma specializes in working with adults who grew up in chaotic or neglectful environments. Her clients are often outwardly successful and capable individuals, but they find themselves internally struggling with excessive worry, challenging relationships, or a pervasive sense of emptiness.

At the root of these challenges are often unresolved wounds or deep-seated beliefs formed in early childhood. During these formative years, individuals internalize messages that shape how they see themselves, relate to others, and navigate stress. While these early narratives may have once been useful, they can become harmful in adulthood. Bringing these unconscious patterns to light in a safe space allows for greater understanding and the possibility for new ways of being and experiencing.

Clients who resonate with Emma’s approach are typically introspective and curious about the deeper “why” behind their emotional struggles. They are not seeking quick fixes or superficial strategies but are instead looking to be truly understood and to understand themselves more fully. Her work is rooted in psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches that target the underlying causes of distress, rather than just alleviating surface-level symptoms.

Emma brings a deep respect for the therapeutic process, informed by her own experience of transformation through therapy. She became a therapist because she believes in the power of this work. She holds a BS in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University. Her professional background includes work in transitional housing, in-home services, intensive outpatient programs for substance use and eating disorders, and private practice. She is dedicated to her own personal growth and continues to engage in ongoing training in psychodynamic theory and practice.

Emma is available for virtual sessions for those living in the state of North Carolina.

Message to clients

If you work with me, my hope for you is always to feel more alive, more connected, and have more agency over your thoughts and feelings and what you choose to do about them. Counseling of this nature can help you know yourself more completely and be a catalyst for deep, sustained change not just temporary symptom relief. Successful therapeutic work can look like an ability to embrace a wide spectrum of emotions without judgement and to more successfully manage the inherent and inevitable pain of human life.

My approach is rooted in depth-oriented talk therapy traditions. We will utilize language as our guide to bring awareness to the unconscious and connect with the deeper layers of the mind, so be prepared to talk. I will meet you where you are at, and you will set the pace. I trust your inner wisdom to gently guide us at the pace that is appropriate for you.
