Professional statement

Eva M. Gordon is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy in New York City. Her mission is to provide mental health treatment to the Black community as a source of healing. Her main focus is working with high-achieving and professional Black women, age 30+, who struggle with overextending themselves and unhealthy relationships. The work is to set boundaries, reduce exhaustion, and prioritize mental health. This makes self-care a right and helps clients begin their healing journey. Clients can create new healthy habits for a practical self-care routine, life goals, and a clear vision for their lives.

Eva’s approach is client-centered sessions with a strength-based focus and framework. Her work is rooted in empathy and validation to understand the client’s needs and concerns. A culturally sensitive space is created for working with the Black community. It allows culture to be used as a method for exploring how cultural identity can be a healthy framework for redefining humanity.

Eva employs Psychodynamic Therapy to help clients understand how their past, including their childhood, impacts their current behaviors and experiences. This method helps clients explore how trauma impacts their lives and begin the healing process. Eva also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients understand how their thoughts and feelings impact their behavior. This helps clients recognize how changing behaviors improves their lives and leads to healthy relationships. Psychoeducation and mindfulness tools are used to help clients learn healthy coping skills for stress management.

Eva's professional experiences include working with children, youth, and families in the child welfare system and community mental health clinics in the NYC area. Eva is an experienced telehealth session provider, making psychotherapy accessible and convenient for clients to improve their mental health.

Message to clients

Thank you for contacting me about your mental health needs. As a therapist, I view my role as a partner in your mental health journey. My practice is named Life Guide, meaning guiding and supporting you in the most important project you will ever work on - YOU. This can be hard, as many of us have learned to minimize or push through without recognizing how we feel or how events impact us.

My role is not to give you the answers but to help you find the answers. This process provides you with the tools to trust yourself, especially your insight and visions for your life. We are fed false narratives from society about being tough or struggling as a way of life. Psychotherapy is a source of healing for your spirit, going below the surface to find the root causes of your internal or external struggles.

The goal is to make self-care a right and not a luxury. Invest in yourself by investing in psychotherapy. Improve your life by making time to explore the obstacles to improve your quality of life. Take time to remove the weeds or unhealthy habits in your life. Plant seeds to grow healthy habits and see your life change for the better.

Therapist's note

I work with a company called Thrizer that screens your insurance plan for out-of-network benefits. The client can use the benefits to pay a copay or a portion of the fee after meeting any deductible. Thrizer submits the claim to the insurance company on behalf of the client so the therapist can get paid.

I also work with Mentaya, where the client pays the full fee upfront. Once the client pays, Mentaya submits the claim to the insurance company for reimbursement. Please feel free to contact me about these two services to see if you have out-of-network benefits.
