Professional statement

George S Yerger, MA, LPCC, is a somatic, trauma-focused therapist who works with adults (18+) navigating patterns rooted in complex trauma (CPTSD) and developmental wounding. His work is especially suited for people who feel anxious, on edge, or unsettled in their bodies, and who may experience disconnection from themselves or others. Many arrive frustrated by coping strategies that no longer bring relief and with a sense that something deeper is shaping their emotions, behaviors, and sense of self.

His approach is grounded in the understanding that meaningful change cannot be forced through insight alone. Drawing from Gestalt therapy and transpersonal psychology, he helps clients explore how early experiences and unprocessed trauma are held in the nervous system and continue to shape present-day patterns. Therapy focuses on building awareness and embodied regulation so new ways of relating can emerge gradually and sustainably.

George works collaboratively, offering steady guidance while respecting each client’s sovereignty and lived experience. His style is calm, attuned, and relational, with sessions shaped by what is most present for the client as the work unfolds, rather than a fixed agenda. He understands healing as something that unfolds in a nonjudgmental space where the body can feel supported.

In addition to his work with complex trauma, George has specialized experience in psychedelic integration and the support of non-ordinary experiences. He works with individuals navigating panic, dissociation, existential distress, or lingering disorientation following these experiences. He offers individual therapy via telehealth throughout Colorado, with limited in-person availability in Longmont and nature-based sessions along the Front Range when weather permits.

Message to clients

Reaching out for therapy can feel a little awkward, intimidating, or overwhelming, and that makes sense. You don’t have to know exactly what you’re looking for or how to name what’s going on. I’m here to help you make sense of the process and get a firmer footing on a path that feels right for you.

In our work together, we start right where you are. You don’t need to perform, explain everything clearly, or have a plan. I’ll be there to support what’s unfolding and help you navigate your process as it develops over time, at a pace that respects your capacity and experience.

I tend to work well with motivated, thoughtful, and often creative people who may appear high-achieving on the outside while struggling with a more complex inner world. Therapy can be a place to slow down, where you don’t have to hold it all together.

If you’re ready to try something different or simply curious whether this approach might be a fit, you’re welcome to reach out for a free 20-minute consultation. You can also learn more about me and my work at my website: Sōroot Counseling.
