Professional statement

Jeannie Chan is a therapist based in Brooklyn, New York. She often works with clients struggling with perfectionism, self-criticism, and self-esteem often in the face of anxiety, stress, and life transitions. Additional areas of focus include emotional regulation, difficulty expressing or identifying emotions, grief and loss, and patterns of people-pleasing or avoidance in relationships. Jeannie is particularly interested in how unresolved childhood conflicts can impact the ways people view themselves and relationships in adulthood. She also offers support to new parents and parents of young children looking to unpack their childhood experiences so they can show up differently for their own kids.

Jeannie also has a keen understanding of the unique experiences Asian Americans, children of immigrants, and other people of color may have in navigating their identities in predominantly White spaces, and is passionate about exploring the complexities of race and identity, and their impact on emotional well-being.

Jeannie's work is grounded in strengths-based and culturally affirming practices that integrates evidence-based modalities into a holistic approach with the intention of facilitating the client's self-awareness, regulation, and insight. She often incorporates parts work, psychodynamic, cognitive and mindfulness techniques in session. Jeannie is direct and inquisitive but her style is warm, genuine, and tailored to suit each client's unique needs. With patience, compassion, and a sense of humor, she strives to create a supportive environment for growth and healing.

Message to clients

Life doesn’t usually fall apart all at once. More often, it begins to come undone in small, subtle ways until it all becomes too much. You may function well on the outside while feeling internally stuck, self-critical, or uncertain about how to change long-standing patterns. If this sounds familiar to you, let's talk.

I work with adults who are navigating challenges related to identity, family and cultural dynamics, intimacy and dating, and the lingering effects of earlier relationships. Many of my clients struggle with perfectionism, difficulty accessing or expressing emotions, and a sense that they understand what their issues are but feel unsure how to move through them. In therapy, we focus on increasing insight into how past experiences shape present behavior, emotional responses, and relationship patterns. Our work emphasizes curiosity rather than judgment, helping you recognize unhelpful internal narratives, develop greater emotional flexibility, and strengthen a more stable and compassionate sense of self.

If you’re considering therapy, you don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We can start just where you are. Book a free consultation to explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
