Jennifer Alt (Marriage & Family Therapist) is a licensed psychotherapist in Seattle. She specializes in working with women in midlife. Many of Jen’s clients come in to address life transitions and identity development associated with midlife and perimenopause and menopause.
Jen is trained in client-centered and relational therapy from a psychodynamic perspective, where the client-therapist relationship is used to create a reparative relational experience that can develop self-understanding, resilience and self-love in yourself and your relationships. In session, Jen may use mind-body activities like breathing exercises and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations and creative expressive interventions using activities like painting, and journaling to bypass automatic reflexive responses to painful feelings and issues. With this approach clients are able to witness their strengths and resiliency, identify their wants and needs in and out of their relationships, while living with self compassion.
Jen's style is warm, non-judgmental, and creative. When clients first start therapy, she will work to understand why the client is seeking therapy and collaboratively set therapeutic goals with them, while establishing a strong relationship where the client feels safe to explore themself and the issues bringing them into therapy.
Jen received her MA, LMFT from California Institute of Integral Studies. She has worked at Marina Counseling Center, a community mental health clinic serving a diverse local community via psychotherapy with individual adults and couples. Outside of private practice, she loves to be outside, enjoy nature, listen to music and engage in some kind of creative outlet.
