Professional statement

Jennifer Alt (Marriage & Family Therapist) is a licensed psychotherapist in Seattle. She specializes in working with women in midlife. Many of Jen’s clients come in to address life transitions and identity development associated with midlife and perimenopause and menopause.

Jen is trained in client-centered and relational therapy from a psychodynamic perspective, where the client-therapist relationship is used to create a reparative relational experience that can develop self-understanding, resilience and self-love in yourself and your relationships. In session, Jen may use mind-body activities like breathing exercises and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations and creative expressive interventions using activities like painting, and journaling to bypass automatic reflexive responses to painful feelings and issues. With this approach clients are able to witness their strengths and resiliency, identify their wants and needs in and out of their relationships, while living with self compassion.

Jen's style is warm, non-judgmental, and creative. When clients first start therapy, she will work to understand why the client is seeking therapy and collaboratively set therapeutic goals with them, while establishing a strong relationship where the client feels safe to explore themself and the issues bringing them into therapy.

Jen received her MA, LMFT from California Institute of Integral Studies. She has worked at Marina Counseling Center, a community mental health clinic serving a diverse local community via psychotherapy with individual adults and couples. Outside of private practice, she loves to be outside, enjoy nature, listen to music and engage in some kind of creative outlet.

Message to clients

Asking for help is a vulnerable first step. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to make you feel better about yourself and your life. While the journey can be a tough one with ups and downs, the payoff is often great. It’s my honor to journey with you through the pain and the joy, maybe with a few occasional laughs.

I take pride in working with a diverse array of people in my practice and welcome individuals from any racial and ethnic backgrounds as well as all sexual and gender identities.

I ask that my clients commit to weekly 55 minute sessions. Meeting weekly helps us create a strong relationship that allows the space and safety to delve deeper into the issues bringing you into therapy, as well as the space and safety for you to create a better sense of self-understanding, resiliency and compassion.

If you're unsure therapy or my approach are right for you, I'm happy to speak with you via phone for a free, 15-minute consultation to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
