Professional statement

Jessica Loftus is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Long Island, NY. Many of Jessica's clients come in when they feel overwhelmed, alone, or stuck in some area of their life. Jessica is particularly passionate about supporting people adjusting to life transitions, those living with anxiety/panic as well as individuals rebuilding after grief or trauma.

Jessica is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and is trained in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). However, she incorporates a variety of therapeutic approaches including narrative therapy, strengths-based approaches & mindfulness/somatic techniques. Jessica’s goal is to work with you on not only processing the emotional parts of your suffering but on brainstorming active ways to change parts of your life that may no longer serve you as well.

Jessica’s style is warm, accepting and person-centered. She aims to create space for individuals to feel safe by being open and human herself so that a genuine therapeutic relationship can be made. When a client first comes in, we discuss what concerns or issues brought you to therapy and identify areas of change desired.

**(Please note: Jessica does NOT prescribe medications, but can provide referrals for medication management upon request)**

Message to clients

Talking to a stranger about personal issues can be intimidating. Questions like, “will they judge me?” and “is it normal to feel this way?” can creep into our heads preventing us from reaching out when he need help the most. The great news is this – therapy is a judgment-free zone! If you've been struggling in some area of your life, be it work, relationships, family, etc. I am here to validate what you’re feeling and to help you resolve the issue. My goal is to help you realize your hidden “superpowers” and to develop the tools you need to build a more balanced and meaningful life. Therapy is paced differently for each person; some only see me for a few sessions to work through life adjustments while others may have deeper issues such as trauma that take more time to repair and process. Again, no judgement. Each person is unique and therapy is not cookie-cut. I work with each person on building their resiliency so they can overcome and manage whatever challenges they are facing. From depression, low self-esteem, unhealthy habits, perfectionism and shame I am here to walk you through the darkness to the other side...

Specialties

Trauma - There are many misconceptions about what trauma is, and my first step is to provide education, resources and support to those who struggle with the aftermath of their past experiences. Many of my clients come to me to address issues with relationships, sleep or low self-esteem, but we later learn many of their current beliefs & reactions stem from negative experiences in childhood or adolescence. My goal is to empower clients through the healing process and help them feel like themselves again.

Anxiety - I help those struggling with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress and provide tools they can use to manage their symptoms. Anxiety can often prevent us from living our life to the fullest (e.g. - we may avoid certain situations or talk ourselves out of saying or doing certain things for fear of the outcome). My aim is to help you navigate your way through any unhelpful coping patterns (i.e. - avoidance, self-medication, perfectionism, etc.) and learn new ways to manage your stress.

Depression - "You don't think in depression that you've put on a gray veil and are seeing the world through the haze of a bad mood. You think that the veil has been taken away, the veil of happiness, and that now you're seeing truly." - Andrew Solomon Depression is one of the hardest things to work through, especially if it's chronic. I'm here to provide the support and tools to manage it.
