Professional statement

Jill is a licensed mental health counselor, LMHC, who serves all of Rhode Island with in-person or virtual video appointments.

She has experience treating anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, life transitions, work and/or school related stress. She works primarily with adult individuals.

Jill works by creating space for clients to share their lived experiences and related thoughts and feelings. Tangible strategies are identified for clients to use and practice to get on a path to feeling better. Personal strengths are identified and incorporated to promote growth and healing. She utilizes a person-centered, trauma-informed approach and incorporates self-compassion, mindfulness strategies, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and interactive feedback throughout a session.

Most people have the answers within them for whatever they might be struggling with - Jill helps clients identify and highlight those solutions, and find ways put these solutions into practice.

Jill is trained in cognitive processing therapy (CPT), which helps people recover from PTSD related symptoms. It is an evidenced-based approach where clients are helped to recognize negative thoughts created by the traumatic event(s), called stuck points, and teaches clients to consider new and/or alternative views/perspective about the traumatic event(s). Jill is newly trained in CBT-Insomnia, to assist those struggling with sleep issues and insomnia, which goes beyond simply learning sleep hygiene.

Jill graduated with a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling from Southern New Hampshire University. Her experience includes opportunities working in settings such as partial hospital, private practice, and community agencies.

Message to clients

Believe it or not, you actually have the answers to figuring out the problems and challenges you're dealing with - in other words you're smarter than you might think! But sometimes that's really hard to realize on our own, especially if you struggle with self-doubt or have had experiences in life that have you believing otherwise. Or sometimes life happens out of nowhere and turns you upside down. If you struggle with anxiety, depression, a big life problem/challenge that came out of left field/was unexpected, trauma/PTSD, I'd like to try to help you. I help by getting you closer to these answers you have within you. Treatment is tailored to your specific needs. You get space to share and discuss what's troubling you, and we identify ways to start feeling better. This can include things like cognitive behavioral therapy (what we think and feel impacts what we do), mindfulness, or CPT (for trauma). I try to make sure clients feel at ease as we work together. I'm kind, down-to-earth, and direct in a very gentle and caring way. I help clients learn ways to deal with whatever challenges they have, with the idea that client's already have the answers within them. I give clients space to share about lived experiences, and combine tangible strategies to help cope. My hope for clients is they leave feeling heard, with more hope and the empowerment to handle what they might be dealing with.
