Dr. Judith M. Thorne has over 25 years' experience in the mental health field. she is licensed in NC, SC, VA, PA and MA. Initially, Dr. Thorne worked primarily with children and adolescents but as her career progressed, she received specialty training in women's issues including prenatal, postpartum mental health as well as issues related to infertility, baby loss, perimenopause and menopause. Often this would include husbands or partners. Over the years, she came to appreciate how men get affected by these issues and how their brain, wiring and hormones relate to their life experience. In addition, Dr. Thorne treats anxiety, depression, ADHD and OCD/the "O".
Dr. Thorne has been trained in Cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Her doctoral program incorporated both. She may help by linking thoughts, feelings and behavior but also may work on relationships from childhood through adulthood and explore how these are interconnected. The focus, goals and objectives will be developed within the first three sessions.
Dr. Thorne prides herself in the ability to work with various backgrounds and cultures. She is nonjudgmental and supportive to her patients. she looks at the therapeutic relationship as one of "fellow travelers". As Yalom states "This term abolishes the distinction between "them" (the afflicted) and "us" (the healers).
