Dr. Julie Marcus is a clinical psychologist in New York City, with extensive training and experience treating people of all ages, and for a wide range of emotional challenges. She specializes in anxiety, including social anxiety, depression, relationship issues and trauma. In addition, she has expertise working with individuals facing major life transitions such as moving from late adolescence into early adulthood, adjusting to married life, becoming a parent of negotiating the aging process. Coping with separation and divorce, and their impact on children, is another specialty.
Dr. Marcus's work with children and teenagers (and their parents) has endowed her with a unique skill set, including patience, creativity, and the ability to communicate complex ideas in an accessible manner. This background informs her compassionate and holistic approach to therapy, enabling her to guide clients of all ages toward greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and meaningful connections in their lives.
Dr. Marcus integrates a variety of established techniques tailored to each individual's unique needs. Her approach is primarily psychodynamic, which involves uncovering the ways in which unconscious forces may be "pulling the strings" in an individual's life, often leading to poor decision-making. She believes that when one gains insight into the nature of these forces their power is reduced and one will have greater control of over their life.
Dr. Marcus is dedicated to creating a warm, welcoming, and safe environment where patients feel comfortable sharing their private thoughts and feelings without judgment. Using intuition and empathy, her aim is always to help her patients gain a deeper understanding of their inner lives, fostering personal growth and emotional well-being.
In her personal life, Dr. Marcus enjoys drawing, photography, film and reading. She also draws from her own unique life experiences in ways that greatly enhance her work.
