Professional statement

Karen Tsai provides individual adult psychotherapy services to address a wide range of concerns. She can speak Chinglish (Mandarin and Cantonese), and also strives to provide queer- and gender-affirming care.

Karen Tsai's approach is primarily guided by ideas and techniques from psychoanalytic therapy, a more intensive approach in which we try to have curiosity about both the conscious and unconscious reasons for our choices. We hope that with more awareness and deeper understanding about ourselves and others, we then feel more freedom in our choices and ultimately, greater well-being.

Message to clients

Are you struggling with anxiety, loneliness, or unease? I listen carefully and help create a safe space to increase understanding and ultimately, facilitate moving away from self-defeating patterns towards greater well-being. This includes improved relationships, relief from painful feelings, stronger communication and coping skills, and greater meaning in life.

I have worked with many people of many backgrounds on this journey, and hold a holistic view of the complex societal and cultural contexts that influence our lives. I have a special focus on trauma and adult children of immigrants.

Above all else, it is important that we share a process based on warmth and respect. It takes courage to reach out. I welcome hearing from you.
