Professional statement

Laurie Buehler is an experienced psychotherapist based in Ithaca, New York, offering in-person and remote sessions to clients in New York and California. She is available to meet on week days 9am to 7:30 pm to accomodate both PST and EST time zones. In 2023, she moved with her husband and son from the San Francisco Bay Area to rural upstate New York to adjust to climate change and embrace a simpler lifestyle that aligns with her deepest values.

With a Masters in Counseling from Dominican University and a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Colorado, Laurie has over twenty years of experience, including a decade in hospice care and work with children, teens, and young adults in school and community mental health settings. She has had a private psychotherapy practice since 2010.

Laurie primarily works from a somatic (mind-body) theoretical orientation. Early in her career, she transitioned from offering biofeedback to more effective, technology-free approaches. Her participation in silent meditation retreats has deepened her understanding of mindfulness and personal growth, which she incorporates into her practice. Other influences include AEDP (a relational approach), Non-Violent Communication, yoga, and intuitive studies.

Laurie is fluent in Spanish and has traveled extensively around the world. She is dedicated to connecting with our shared humanity and enjoys working with clients from various religious and cultural backgrounds. Laurie is passionate about helping clients of all ages transform anxiety, depression, grief, illness, trauma, and chronic pain into a fulfilling life.

Message to clients

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me.

I’ve noticed that many of us feel disconnected from what truly matters as daily pressures erode our sense of purpose and joy—whether from unfulfilling work or challenging relationships where we feel unseen and unappreciated. Ignoring your needs can lead to struggles like anxiety, depression, illness, or addiction. Creating a fulfilling life involves redefining what success means and focusing on quality of life, even when change feels difficult.

In our work together, I aim to help you reconnect with your authentic self and core values. I offer heart-centered honesty, mindfulness, body-based techniques, and guided imagery to provide practical ways to ease anxiety and depression, cultivate hope, and clarify your next steps. By recognizing how you’ve strayed from your path, we can focus on what truly matters and empower you to build a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
