Professional statement

Mariah is committed to providing client centered, trauma informed care for all clients. She ultimately works from an integrated perspective, collaborating with clients to generate a treatment environment that is as safe and beneficial as possible for each unique individual. Her style is open, collaborative and transparent. Mariah primarily works from an Internal Family Systems (IFS) and psychodynamic orientation, with a strong background in somatic awareness, advocacy and anti-oppression social work. Mariah is also trained in crisis management and behavioral therapies (CBT and DBT).

Mariah received her Master’s degree in social work from Smith School for Social work in 2012 and she has been practicing in NYC since 2009. Additionally, she has continued to pursue post-graduate training through out her career. Mariah has studied and practiced IFS for several years, and recently completed Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level one training. She previously completed the 2 year psychodynamic training program at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy (ICP.) Mariah has an ongoing commitment to engaging with anti-racism and anti-bias training, education and practice. As such, she invites feedback in session and is able to address miss-attunement and bias that might happen during the course of treatment.

In terms of client focus, Mariah enjoys working with a wide range of people. She has experience supporting those who are struggling with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma. Mariah has extensive and diverse experience providing care within the LGBTQ+ community. She sees people who are HIV positive or suffer with other chronic illnesses/pain, as well as people dealing with body image issues and self harming behaviors.

Mariah is based in Brooklyn, NY and conducts all sessions virtually at this time.

Message to clients

The human experience of life is complex. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, unfulfilling or even unlivable.

Pain, grief, hopelessness, past traumas and difficult relationships can seem like too much to bear. While opening up to healing can be daunting and feel vulnerable, it is possible to open up new space to follow a more meaningful, connected path and to reconnect with joy and calm.

I am an active participant in sessions with clients, because I believe therapy is more than just listening. In therapy, I help patients explore and address past traumas or childhood experiences and how they impact current patterns and quality of life. I also incorporate mind body interventions and work with mindfulness and learning practical skills. In sessions, we will work together to learn and understand what is causing your distress, and find the best way to bring light, bear witness and re-discover hope.

I strongly believe in a person centered, trauma informed approach; together we will find the modality or modalities that work best. You are the holder and the builder of your most fulfilling life.
