Professional statement

Marissa Tolero is a licensed psychotherapist who works with adults experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, self-criticism, and identity-related stress. She specializes in supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals and cishet women who feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, perfectionism, or emotional overwhelm and who want to feel more confident, grounded, and at ease with themselves.

Her therapy style is warm, collaborative, and compassion-focused. Marissa integrates compassion-focused therapy, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to help clients understand their thoughts and emotions while building practical tools for managing anxiety and improving self-esteem. Sessions often focus on softening harsh inner dialogue, strengthening emotional regulation, and developing a more supportive relationship with oneself.

Marissa is committed to creating an affirming, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore difficult emotions at their own pace. She is especially attentive to the impact of identity, social context, and lived experience on mental health. As a certified yoga instructor, she may incorporate mindfulness or body-based awareness when helpful, supporting clients in feeling more present and regulated.

Marissa offers therapy through a fully virtual private practice and provides telehealth sessions for clients seeking flexible, accessible care. She offers free 20-minute consultations and welcomes clients who are curious about whether working together feels like the right fit.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’re used to being hard on yourself or unsure what to expect. I aim to create a space where you can show up as you are without judgment, pressure, or needing to have the “right” words and where you feel safe, respected, and supported from the start.

My approach is compassion-focused and practical with attention to anxiety, self-criticism, and emotional overwhelm. I bring warmth, humor, and my full presence into sessions and I’m especially mindful of offering an affirming space for LGBTQIA+ clients. If you’re new to therapy, we’ll move at a pace that feels manageable and collaborative.

If you’re curious about working together, I offer free 20-minute consultations to help you see if this feels like a good fit.
