Professional statement

When is it time to make a change? Are you feeling lonely, anxious, sad, or quietly stuck despite doing “everything right”? Often, these experiences signal that something meaningful is shifting and that support could help.

Dr. Mary Collins works with thoughtful young adults and adults — including college students, graduate students, and professionals — who are navigating periods of transition, uncertainty, or internal strain. Many of her clients seek therapy around life transitions, anxiety, stress, sadness, or a growing sense that something needs to change, even when life appears outwardly stable. Her work is often a good fit for adults in transition — from early adulthood through midlife — including those balancing multiple roles, responsibilities, and competing demands.

Navigating change and the mix of emotions it brings is challenging enough; it does not have to be lonely. Therapy offers a collaborative, reflective space where you can slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and explore patterns that may no longer be serving you. Together, you’ll examine areas where you feel stuck, clarify goals and values, and develop more intentional ways of responding to life’s challenges.

Dr. Collins earned her Psy.D. from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and spent ten years as the Training Director of a doctoral internship program while maintaining a private practice. Her clinical interests include mindfulness, supervision, and program development, with a longstanding focus on helping people navigate meaningful transitions.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and dogs, and exploring hiking trails.

Remote therapy sessions are available in multiple states.

Message to clients

Beginning therapy can feel daunting, and finding the right fit with a therapist is important. Comhar is Irish for collaboration or partnership, which reflects how I view therapy: a thoughtful, collaborative process where we work together to navigate change, stress, and uncertainty in your life. Most importantly, therapy offers a space where you can be open and honest without judgment.

It’s common for people new to therapy to feel both hopeful and uncomfortable as they begin. Over time, our work together is designed to be supportive, reflective, and growth-oriented. Through active participation, you may develop greater insight into patterns that feel limiting, along with skills and perspectives that support steadier, more intentional ways of responding to life’s challenges.

I believe that many people benefit from taking time to reflect on the life they want to live and the changes they hope to make. While this can sound simple, meaningful change is rarely easy. My hope is that therapy offers a space to explore, learn about yourself, and grow more authentically into the person you want to be.
