Professional statement

Matt Sato is a licensed psychotherapist in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Colorado who works with adults and couples. He supports clients struggling with overwhelming emotions, difficult patterns, and feelings of disconnect from themselves or others.

Matt’s relationally-focused approach integrates elements of CBT to help clients identify the narratives shaping their lives. His work centers on nonjudgemental curiosity and exploration of clients’ relationships with themselves and others. Through a lens of understanding and acceptance, his approach challenges clients to connect the influence of their relational patterns to struggles they face in the present.

Matt helps clients clarify where they are now, how their past has shaped them, and where they would like to go next. His areas of expertise include anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, gender and sexuality concerns, and cultural pressures. Work with Matt is collaborative, affirming, grounded, and leaves clients with new insights to reflect on.

With a background in higher education administration and business, and as the child of immigrants, Matt brings an understanding of how cultural and environmental influences shape people’s experiences. His attunement to intersectionality as a gay, first-generation, Filipino-American therapist himself, allows clients to feel seen, heard, and safe.

Matt offers virtual sessions, with evening and weekend availability.

We’ll work together to acknowledge what got you to where you are today, and collaborate on realistic and sustainable ways to support you on where you’d like to go next.
