Dr. Mayowa Obasaju is a licensed psychologist (PhD) who works primarily with adults from communities that have been historically marginalized and underserved, particularly Black and BIPOC individuals navigating the compounding weight of trauma, racism-based stress, grief, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. She also specializes in reproductive and maternal mental health, supporting birthing people across the full arc of the reproductive journey: preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting, as well as those facing infertility. Her practice is affirming of LGBTQ+ identities, including queer, non-binary, and gender expansive folks, and she works with individuals, families, and groups.
Dr. Obasaju’s therapeutic orientation is integrative and explicitly justice-centered. She draws on liberation psychology, trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Multicultural Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and somatic approaches. Her work attends not only to the individual, but to the broader family, community, political, and systemic forces that shape mental health and well-being. She holds space for spiritual and embodied healing alongside more conventional therapeutic modalities, and places strong emphasis on clients’ own inner wisdom and capacity to author their paths forward.
She holds a PhD in Clinical and Community Psychology from Georgia State University and brings over 17 years of practice experience. Dr. Obasaju has pursued advanced training relevant to her specializations, including Level 1 Internal Family Systems training, Levels 1 and 2 Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT tapping), and the Postpartum Support International (PSI) and Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health Professional Maternal Mental Health Certificate. She is also affiliated with Deeper Than Color, a psychotherapy and consulting practice based in Oakland, CA.
In addition to individual therapy, Dr. Obasaju facilitates structured group therapy experiences, including groups specifically for Black birthing people navigating infertility, BIPOC women and gender expansive folks, and parents and caregivers committed to raising children with a liberatory and justice-oriented framework.
