Professional statement

Melissa is currently accepting new clients for in-person sessions.

Melissa is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 15+ years of experience working with adults. Her private practice, Be Held Holistic Counseling and Wellness, is located in Wickford, RI. Melissa works with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, grief/loss, and burnout. Her holistic approach is rooted in the mind-body connection and includes elements of Mindfulness, Somatic Therapy, and Strengths-based Therapy. Her work focuses on holding space for clients’ deep innate knowing while they move through whatever challenges are currently present. As a trauma-informed therapist, Melissa acknowledges the impact of past experiences on clients’ present situations, and works closely with them to integrate uncomfortable feelings. Melissa understands change can take time; therefore, she uses a patient and non-judgmental approach with her clients.

Message to clients

You deserve designated time that is just for you. You also deserve a space to be seen and heard, where you feel safe enough to be vulnerable. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day “to do” list, especially when it comes to taking care of others. Think of the last time you took time for you. That time for you, that pause in the “to do” list, is crucial for your well-being. It is a form of self-love and self-care that is frequently missing from people’s lives.

Often times, it is deeply embedded core beliefs that keep showing up and prevent us from moving forward. Engaging in therapy is a step towards breaking down old belief patterns that keep us from being our most authentic self and living our most authentic life. I am here to hold space for you. Whether you are experiencing overwhelm from daily stressors or more significant life transitions, I am present to offer guidance and support, and most importantly, bear witness to your experiences.
