Professional statement

Mirabelle Wostrel-Rubin is a Licensed Master of Social Work in Manhattan near Union Square. She works primarily with individual adults, couples, and families. Many of Mirabelle’s clients come in when they are feeling burnt out by the stress of taking care of others. Whether they are healthcare professionals, new parents, or caregivers for a significant other experiencing illness, Mirabelle welcomes these experiences with warmth and care. Mirabelle is particularly passionate about serving those who may have their own histories of trauma, complex family dynamics, and chronic pain and illness.

Mirabelle’s approach is insight-oriented and relational. She focuses on the here-and-now dynamic between client and therapist, while also listens carefully for the ways that the past is shaping one’s present. This approach supports clients to feel grounded, and more able to freely express themselves, in and out of therapy. Mirabelle brings a warm, patient curiosity to her clients and goes with them at the pace they need. When a client first comes in, Mirabelle will listen attentively to their unique story without rushing them. Mirabelle is sensitive to the impact that systemic harms like racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, and gender-based bias can have on a person. Her practice is guided by anti-oppressive principles.

Mirabelle received her masters of social work from the Silberman School of Social Work. She gained experience at an outpatient mental health clinic called the Metropolitan Center for Mental Health, and in home hospice at VNS Health. This experience enables her to bear witness to the suffering of others and create meaning out of it with them. She is committed to making her practice financially accessible through sliding scale fees. Mirabelle welcomes new clients to her virtual and in-person practice.

Message to clients

I help people who take care of other people. Maybe you're a healthcare professional, a caregiver for a significant other experiencing illness, or a new parent. Perhaps you work in a high intensity environment and are burnt out. You've sacrificed your own needs for so long in order to fulfill those for other people that you don't even know what your needs are. You feel far away from yourself and want to feel alive again. Therapy can help bring you back to yourself so that you feel grounded, connected to your needs, and able to communicate them––so that you can begin living for you again.

My approach is insight-oriented and relational. I focus on the here-and-now dynamic between us while paying attention to your unique story and listening carefully for patterns that contribute to areas where you feel stuck. Together, we'll find the words to understand your experience and make meaning out of it.

I have experience working with adults in outpatient mental health clinics and in home hospice. My practice is guided by anti-oppressive principles. I am sensitive to the impacts posed by systemic harms like racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, and gender-based bias. I look forward to hearing from you.
