Professional statement

Molly Walters, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (#157690), provides therapy to adolescents and adults struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety Disorders, and related concerns, including body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFBRBs), such as trichotillomania and dermatillomania, and eating disorders. Having lived experience with OCD, she works collaboratively with clients seeking to better understand their experiences and build more fulfilling, values-aligned lives.

Molly’s approach is rooted in evidence-based practices, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness skills training. She also integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS) and attachment-based techniques as appropriate to address deeper wounds underlying OCD and anxiety. Her work emphasizes the mind-body connection, helping clients develop practical strategies to manage intrusive thoughts, urges, and anxiety while cultivating self-trust and resilience.

Molly’s professional training includes clinical work with young adults in community mental health centers and psychiatric hospitals, including international experience in Prague. With a background in the medical field, she brings a strong understanding of how physiological and psychological processes interact, enhancing her ability to support clients in navigating challenging symptoms. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and is supervised by Alegra Kastens, LMFT (#124277) at The Center for OCD, Anxiety, and Eating Disorders.

Based in Southern California, Molly offers virtual sessions to clients throughout California and Florida. Her practice is designed to be collaborative, warm, and practical, supporting clients in developing skills that promote long-term growth, emotional regulation, and a greater sense of agency.

Message to clients

I know it’s scary to think about addressing OCD head-on with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), but I also know how overwhelming it can be to live with OCD every day. I have lived experience with a wide range of OCD themes, taboo and not, which is part of how I’m able to guide clients through ERP so effectively.

During my time in Prague, I observed their “peer therapist” program, in which previous clients had the opportunity to become therapists. The Czechs believed this made sense, as who could understand an experience better than someone who has lived it? That perspective reinforced my belief that OCD recovery is possible because I’ve experienced it myself, and I am here to help you do the same.

I bring both personal and professional familiarity with OCD, while also integrating Internal Family Systems-informed work to address underlying childhood wounds that often contribute to OCD patterns. Treatment is not easy (I won’t sugarcoat it), but it is worth it. If you’re ready to begin your journey toward recovery, I’m here to support and guide you every. step. of. the. way.
