Professional statement

Dr. Simmons is a licensed clinical psychologist helping clients manage OCD, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), body image concerns, anxiety disorders, and related conditions.

Her practice, Nene Psychology, is located in Rhode Island and provides telehealth to clients in RI, Massachusetts, New York, Iowa, and most states through PSYPACT.

Her practice is guided by scientific research and clinical expertise. She uses evidence-based approaches such as exposure and response prevention (ERP), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), inference based CBT (I-CBT), habit reversal training (HRT), and compassion-focused therapies.

While many clients seek her support for specific conditions, she provides a safe space to address any challenges affecting wellbeing.

She approaches clients with warmth and openness, with experience supporting individuals from the LGBTQIA community. She engages in ongoing training to ensure her work is inclusive, culturally responsive, and tailored to each client’s needs.

She currently runs a private practice and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School.

Previously, she was a clinician and researcher at the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Program at Rhode Island Hospital.

She has advanced training in evidence based therapies from leaders in the field and is a graduate of the IOCDF Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI).

Message to clients

People often seek me out when they feel stuck in unwanted thoughts or patterns of behavior. Over time, these experiences can erode trust in one’s own judgment and sense of self. My aim is to help clients step back from persistent doubt and unhelpful patterns so they can feel more present and engaged in their daily lives.

The initial evaluation is a 60-minute meeting, offered either in person or virtually. During this session, I share my diagnostic impressions and recommendations. If we decide together that working together makes sense, we schedule a follow-up visit to develop a treatment plan. If not, I help identify appropriate referral options.

Throughout therapy, I work to understand each client’s concerns, collaborate on goals, introduce skills and perspectives that support change, and invite ongoing feedback. My hope is that therapy helps you feel more grounded and present in your daily life.

You’re welcome to message me with any questions to see if we might be a good fit.
