Professional statement

Rhonda Shepherd, LCSWA, LCAS, and CCS is a trauma-informed therapist and the Founder of Waves of Hope, based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She provides in-person and telehealth therapy for adults and adolescents across North Carolina, specializing in trauma, substance use recovery, anxiety, and life transitions.

Rhonda’s approach is compassionate, structured, and deeply person-centered. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care, and strengths-based therapy to help clients build emotional stability, improve coping skills, and reconnect with a sense of hope and purpose. Her clinical work is especially focused on individuals navigating recovery, complex trauma, and high-stress life changes.

With over 15 years of experience in mental health and addiction services, Rhonda brings both clinical expertise and real-world understanding to the therapeutic process. She creates a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered to grow at their own pace.

Services are provided through Waves of Hope at 4045 University Parkway, Suite 230, Winston-Salem, NC, and via secure telehealth sessions statewide.

Message to clients

Starting therapy takes courage, especially when you’ve spent so much of your life holding things together for everyone else. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or unsure where to begin, you’re not alone. My goal is to create a space where you can slow down, breathe, and speak openly without fear of judgment. You deserve a place where your story is heard and where you don’t have to carry everything on your own.

In our work together, I take a calm, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach. I specialize in working with adults and adolescents navigating trauma, anxiety, life transitions, and substance use recovery. We will move at a pace that feels safe and manageable, focusing on building coping skills, understanding patterns, and strengthening emotional resilience. Therapy with me is not about pressure or perfection — it is about steady progress, clarity, and meaningful change.

I believe healing happens in a supportive, consistent environment where you feel respected and understood. My work is rooted in compassion, structure, and real-life practicality, especially for clients balancing stress, recovery, and major life demands. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin. Wherever you are right now, I will meet you there, and we will take the next steps forward together — one wave at a time.
