Professional statement

Robert Keeler is a psychotherapist who works with adults navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, career transitions, and other major life changes. He provides a warm, compassionate, and trusting therapy environment grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience and inner capacity for growth.

Robert takes an integrative, insight‑oriented approach to therapy, drawing primarily from psychodynamic psychotherapy, along with cognitive‑behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy. His work helps clients better understand longstanding emotional patterns while also developing practical tools to foster resilience, clarity, and meaningful change.

Robert brings broad clinical experience across settings, including individual psychotherapy, hospital‑based work with individuals and families affected by cancer and HIV/AIDS, and outpatient adult psychiatry, where he has supported people living with severe and chronic mental illness and addiction. He also has extensive experience working with undergraduate and professional students at NYU and the University of Virginia, supporting concerns related to identity, purpose, and life transitions.

He has completed advanced training in adult psychodynamic psychotherapy at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute and values a multicultural, inclusive approach to care. Robert is open to incorporating spirituality into therapy in a way that respects each client’s beliefs, whether religious, spiritual, or secular, and he is fluent in French and Spanish.
