Professional statement

Hi, I’m Ryan Sweat, a licensed therapist providing telehealth services in California and Nevada. I work with individuals, couples, polyamorous people, LGBTQ+, late teens, and adults. I focus on addressing anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, communication challenges, and men's issues.

My therapeutic approach integrates evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and behavioral therapy. I tailor treatment to meet your specific needs, beginning with an understanding of your current situation, what's working and what isn't. Together, we develop practical skills and create actionable plans to establish healthier habits and improve your quality of life.

In sessions, I emphasize somatic and tactical behavioral interventions designed to provide immediate relief and long-term empowerment. These include breathing exercises and grounding techniques for managing stress, organizational strategies to reduce overwhelm and increase agency, communication tools to strengthen relationships, and anxiety management plans. I provide structured homework assignments between sessions to ensure skill integration and lasting change. My goal is to equip you with practical tools and strategies that help you feel confident and in control, ultimately preparing you to graduate from therapy.

My therapeutic style is active, empathetic, and solution-focused. From our first session, we work to build trust and reduce shame while identifying your current patterns. We explore why these patterns developed, how they've served you, and what healthier alternatives you'd prefer. Then we create realistic and actionable plans to implement positive changes.

I earned my Master's in Clinical Psychotherapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). My clinical training includes intensive work at Bernal Heights CPMC Hospital and Willow Rock Psychiatric Hospital, where I provided crisis intervention services to adolescents and adults as both a therapist and social worker during the pandemic years. Outside of practice, I enjoy rock climbing, mountain biking, 3D printing, reading, yoga, and cooking.

Message to clients

In therapy, my primary goal is to empower you and help you find a real reduction in suffering. When we work together, you will discover an honest, nonjudgmental, and truly safe space. Here, you can talk about anything weighing on you, even the private or difficult things you might not share with anyone else. My deepest hope is for you to feel completely understood and to realize the answers and wisdom you already have within you. I see myself as a guide, not someone with all the solutions, but as a partner in your journey of self discovery.

If you're ready for change and have a desire to grow, I am ready to walk that path with you. I will meet you exactly where you are, help you create a clear plan for where you want to go, and support you in the steps required to get there. Therapy involves effort, especially when we look at challenging areas, but it also brings immense relief and understanding. While there are no quick fixes, the insights gained will always feel worthwhile, and often, the goal is for you to gain the tools to thrive independently.

For those ready to explore new patterns and commit to some "homework" between sessions, my approach is for you. When you are ready, please explore my website for more detailed information about how I work. Then, I invite you to set up a free consultation chat so we can discuss what you hope to achieve.
