Professional statement

Dr. Samantha Mahr is a licensed clinical psychologist in full-time private practice in New York. She works with adults navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, and the emotional shifts that often arise during pregnancy and early parenthood.

Dr. Mahr is a candidate in psychoanalytic training at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and has completed specialized training in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International (PSI). She aims to create a thoughtful, collaborative therapeutic space where clients can explore patterns, deepen self-understanding, and work toward meaningful change.

Dr. Mahr welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities and currently has availability, including a number of lower-fee openings.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel meaningful and also a little uncertain, and I want you to know that my goal is to make beginning this work as approachable and supportive as possible. I believe therapy is about about exploring your inner experience, understanding patterns that may be holding you back, and building skills and insight that help you live more authentically and fully. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to help you connect more deeply to yourself and the world around you in ways that feel right for you.

I work with a wide range of concerns — from anxiety, depression, work stress, and relationships to life transitions and questions of identity. Therapy with me is personalized — not one size fits all — and we will work at your pace, tailoring our work to what you need and where you’re coming from.

I encourage you to reach out to me with any questions or thoughts you have about the process. We will begin with what brought you here, talk about your goals, and build a clear, shared understanding of how we can move forward together. I hope to create a space where you feel understood, grounded, and genuinely supported as you take this step toward growth and change.
