Professional statement

Sandi Langham is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who offers telehealth and in-person therapy in the northside of Chicago. She works with Individual adults of all ages. Many of Sandi’s clients come in to address anxiety, life transitions, dating, career development, mens’ issues (mens’ psychology), family planning and parenting confidence, trauma, and womens fertility/pregnancy/post-partum. Sandi is particularly passionate about serving college students/recent grads, single adults who are dating, young adults who are exploring their identity, young adults who are family planning, and new parents. She also has advanced training in the areas of trauma and Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and addictions.

Sandi is trained in mindfulness-based modalities, EMDR, Parts Therapy (IFS), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavior Therapy CBT, in which we use a mind-body approach to gently soften the ruminating thoughts and learn relaxation tools. Also IFS helps the activated parts (ie. anxiety, fear) to compassionately soften and reconnect with the authentic self. In session, Sandi focuses on Imagery focused guided meditation, needs-based parts work, CBT exercise handouts, breathing exercises, mind-body focused exercises, and EMDR processing. This approach supports clients to feel more confident, calm, grounded, clear, and less stressed on a daily basis.

Sandi's style is compassionate, interactive, and informative. When clients first start therapy, Sandi creates a compassionate and nonjudgmental space, as well as explores the client's presenting issue to be clear about what is important to them to get from therapy.

Sandi received her MA in Clinical Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has worked at a national employee assistance program, where she provided therapy to company employees to build healthy work-life balance in their lives. Outside of private practice, she enjoys biking, live music, time in nature and with her family and friends. Sandi offers both in-person and remote therapy sessions.

Message to clients

"Therapy is like eating chocolate" is what I used to say about therapy, or at the least the relief it can bring from carrying so many things alone in life, finally sharing, and letting go of those things. Part of my journey with therapy is that I initially thought I was just going to go for a few sessions but ended sticking with it for a few years, since I starting feeling better and better from it. I also started feeling more hopeful and clear-minded from it. I remember I initially felt so nervous about talking to a stranger from a couch about private things and about things that did not feel like the ideal verion of myself. But it was nice to just be heard, not judged, and even accepted, supported, and encouraged. It was also nice to understand things better, and to gain clarity and confidence in many areas of life. Plus therapy is "just talking" I often say, but with intentionality like you're progressing somewhere toward a clear endgoal or managable path.

So this is what my hope and goal is for my clients - to feel better and more hopeful. I like to gently help explore with and guide my clients toward the best version of themselves. I also like to offer in-session exercises and tools to walk away with to better manage life stressors.
