Professional statement

Sara Gourley is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Boise, Idaho, offering online therapy to adults across the state. She specializes in working with highly sensitive, high-achieving adults and those who often appear capable and composed on the outside, yet feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected on the inside. Many of her clients are deeply thoughtful, responsible, and relied upon by others — and privately feel burned out, stuck in old relational patterns, or unsure of who they are beneath years of holding it together.

Sara’s approach is trauma-informed, relational, and experiential. Drawing from Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems (parts work), EFT, and somatic practices, she helps clients slow down and reconnect with their inner world. Therapy focuses on present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, and understanding the protective strategies and parts of self that developed in response to past experiences. This work supports greater self-trust, nervous system steadiness, and more authentic ways of relating to self and others.

Clients often describe Sara as warm, calming, and deeply attuned. Her grounded presence creates a supportive relational space where clients feel seen and understood as they explore difficult emotions, unmet needs, or lingering effects of relational or childhood trauma. Sessions are collaborative and paced to each individual, balancing gentle support with thoughtful challenge to foster meaningful, lasting change.

Sara holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Idaho State University and has completed additional training in trauma-informed care, EFT, and somatic therapy. Prior to becoming a counselor, she spent over a decade supporting senior leaders in high-pressure corporate environments, which helps informs her work with high-achieving adults navigating stress, identity, and burnout.

She currently offers online counseling to adults throughout Idaho.

Message to clients

Starting counseling can feel like a big step — especially if you’re someone who’s used to being capable, thoughtful, and holding things together. You may function well on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure of who you are beneath it all. Many of the people I work with are highly sensitive, high-achieving adults who have done a lot of self-reflection yet still feel stuck in patterns that no longer fit them.

My hope is that therapy offers you a space where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out. A place where every part of you is welcome — including the ones that feel unsure, conflicted, or exhausted. Together, we’ll slow down and explore what’s happening in your inner world, listening to emotions, body cues, and protective strategies with curiosity and compassion.

There’s no single “right” way to heal. Our work will be collaborative and paced to support both your goals and your nervous system. If you’re feeling drawn to this work — even with some hesitation — you’re welcome to reach out. You don’t need a clear plan or perfect words to begin.
