Professional statement

Sharon Staniforth is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) who primarily works with women navigating periods of transition, including burnout, relocation, career changes, ADHD-related challenges, and the emotional strain that can come with immigration or living between cultures. Many of her clients are thoughtful, capable adults who are used to handling a great deal on their own but reach a point where the strategies that once worked are no longer helping in the same way. During these moments, anxiety, persistent stress, difficulty with focus or follow-through, or a sense of being stuck can begin to take hold.

Sharon’s approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), mindfulness-based strategies, and Adlerian perspectives. CBT helps clients understand how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact and how shifts in these patterns can lead to meaningful change. Motivational Interviewing helps clients clarify goals and values when they feel uncertain or pulled in different directions. Mindfulness supports greater awareness of internal reactions, while Adlerian principles emphasize identifying strengths and building on what is already working in a client’s life.

In her work with adults with ADHD, Sharon focuses on helping clients better understand how attention, motivation, and follow-through function in their minds. Many clients have spent years appearing capable while privately struggling with overwhelm or self-criticism. Therapy emphasizes understanding these patterns and developing greater self-acceptance alongside practical ways of working with the ADHD mind.

Her style is thoughtful, direct, and collaborative. Sharon provides telehealth sessions for clients located in Maryland and practices under the supervision of Atim Bassey. She offers appointments Tuesdays through Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with the final appointment beginning at 6:00 PM.

Message to clients

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you’re always pushing yourself to keep going—even when you’re exhausted? Many adults with ADHD, anxiety, or burnout find themselves caught in patterns of overthinking, pressure, and never quite feeling “enough.” Therapy can be a space to slow down and understand why these patterns keep repeating.

I work with adults navigating ADHD, anxiety, life transitions, and stress. My approach focuses on insight, patterns, and the deeper meaning behind your experiences, while also building coping skills that support emotional regulation and daily life. Together, we’ll create realistic, sustainable changes that feel aligned with who you are—not just quick fixes.
