Professional statement

Most of Stephanie's clients are accomplished women who look fine from the outside. They're successful, capable, and often the person everyone else leans on. Inside, they're exhausted — anxious, over-responsible, and quietly wondering why all that achievement still doesn't feel like enough.

Many of them grew up as the eldest daughter, the parentified child, or first-gen daughter, the one who learned early that love was something you earned by being useful. They became experts at holding it together. What they never learned was how to put it down.

Luz Trauma Therapy is a virtual practice founded on the belief that real healing happens at the root, not just in managing symptoms, but in understanding where they came from and why the nervous system learned to work so hard. The practice specializes in EMDR, a gold-standard trauma therapy that works beneath the level of insight and talk, helping the nervous system finally release what it's been holding.

Stephanie Sorady, LCSW, is EMDR-certified, bilingual in English and Spanish, and a first-generation eldest daughter herself. She brings both clinical training and lived understanding of intergenerational dynamics, bicultural stress, and the invisible labor so many of her clients carry. She frequently works with Latine and LGBTQIA+ adults, as well as high-achieving individuals navigating masked ADHD alongside perfectionism and anxiety.

Associate therapist Brenda Alvarez, M.S., AMFT, is a bilingual Mexican immigrant clinician whose holistic, community-centered approach honors mind, body, spirit, and lived experience. She supports clients navigating trauma, identity, systemic oppression, and life transitions with warmth and healing justice at the center.

Sessions are available virtually across California and Florida, in English and Spanish, so clients can do this work from wherever they feel most at ease.

Message to clients

You've spent your whole life being the one who holds it together — the fixer, the caretaker, the responsible one. But you are still battling anxiety, guilt, and self-doubt. You're not broken. You've been over-functioning, probably since childhood, and your nervous system has been paying the price ever since.

If you're a high-achieving woman who looks fine from the outside but feels anxious, exhausted, and secretly like you're never quite enough, you're exactly who I work with.

In our work together, we go beneath the surface. Using EMDR and trauma-informed care, we get to the root of the perfectionism, people-pleasing, masked ADHD, and over-responsibility, not just to understand it, but to actually shift it. So that calm and self-trust stop feeling like distant goals and start becoming your actual baseline.

I offer virtual therapy in English and Spanish across California and Florida.

My former associate and colleague, Brenda Alvarez, LMFT, is also available to support folks through a holistic and trauma-informed lens if our availability does not align.
