Professional statement

Tessa Wooden, MA, LMFT works with adults navigating eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, relationship stress, and life transitions. She brings both professional and personal understanding to her work, having been recovered from an eating disorder for over 10 years. Many of her clients are thoughtful, high-functioning people who are often relied on by others but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck internally. Clients often seek therapy when food and body thoughts feel consuming, perfectionism and people-pleasing are exhausting, or long-standing patterns no longer feel sustainable. Tessa’s work is grounded in a weight-inclusive, Health at Every Size® (HAES®)–informed perspective that emphasizes body respect and overall wellbeing.

Tessa takes an integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). In sessions, clients explore the connections between thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and nervous system responses while developing practical tools to support emotional regulation, self-understanding, and meaningful change. Therapy focuses on addressing the underlying beliefs and experiences that contribute to struggles with food, body image, and self-worth.

Her therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and grounded. Tessa is an active therapist who balances emotional depth with structure and clarity, helping clients feel supported, oriented, and understood. Progress is defined collaboratively and often includes increased self-compassion, flexibility, and a stronger connection to self.

Tessa brings extensive experience from higher levels of care, having previously served as a Clinical Director at a leading eating-disorder treatment center in Southern California. She is licensed in California and offers fully virtual therapy to adults statewide, with 45-minute sessions.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’re used to holding things together or being the one others lean on. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we begin. It’s okay if you just know that something isn’t working anymore, or that you’re tired of carrying this on your own.

My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can show up honestly, without needing to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or minimize what you’re struggling with. We’ll move at a pace that feels supportive and doable, and we’ll work together to understand what’s underneath the patterns that keep you stuck, especially around food, body image, and self-worth.

If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm, direct, and deeply respectful of your experience, you’re in the right place. You don’t have to be “ready” or confident to start, just curious enough to take the next small step. I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
