Dr. Virginia Andersen is a Clinical Health Psychologist based in Charlottesville, VA. She provides individual psychotherapy to adults to address a wide range of concerns.
She is board certified in Clinical Health Psychology and has an interest in working with individuals whose aim is to improve their overall health by way of their mental health. She works with clients to better manage anxiety, depression, adjustment to life transitions, grief, and relationship difficulties. She has specialty experience working with individuals experiencing health-related anxiety and depression, and adjustment to chronic illness. She additionally has extensive experience working with individuals who are aiming to address weight gain in the setting of difficult emotions. She practices from a strength-based approach and truly enjoys helping clients reframe challenges to reflect adaptations and areas for growth.
After six years working in healthcare and development, Dr. Andersen returned to school in 2004 to complete a masters in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Virginia. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York in 2013 and a postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Health Psychology at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine. In 2025, after 10 years on faculty in the UVA School of Medicine, she opened her practice in order to focus on her passion for providing excellent clinical care.
Dr. Andersen offers care both in her office in downtown Charlottesville, VA, and also via telehealth. She is a member of PSYPACT and can see clients via telhealth in participating states.
