Professional statement

Zia Ahearn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who is passionate about helping individuals heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, grief, and PTSD. Zia believes therapy is most effective when it feels collaborative, empowering, and tailored to each person's unique experiences, strengths, and goals.

Zia's approach integrates evidence-based modalities including Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Together with her clients, Zia will help build practical coping skills, increase self-confidence, process difficult experiences, and help you reconnect with a greater sense of purpose, resilience, and joy. Zia strives to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout your healing journey.

Zia's clinical experience spans a variety of settings, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), outpatient programs specializing in eating disorders and substance use treatment, and inpatient psychiatric facilities. In addition to her clinical work, Zia developed a Women in Recovery group designed to foster connection, reduce shame, and provide women in early recovery with a supportive community where they can explore triggers, strengthen coping strategies, and encourage one another as they move toward lasting recovery.

Whether you're navigating a recent challenge or working through long-standing patterns, Zia is committed to meeting you where you are and partnering with you to create meaningful, lasting change.

Zia offers virtual therapy for clients throughout Connecticut and New York, making it easier to access care in a way that fits your life.

Message to clients

I know that reaching out for therapy can feel overwhelming, and I want you to know that you don't have to have everything figured out before we begin. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and genuinely heard. I believe therapy works best as a collaborative process, and I will meet you where you are with compassion, curiosity, and respect. Together, we'll identify your strengths, work through the challenges that are keeping you stuck, and build practical tools to help you move toward the life you want.

I use evidence-based approaches including Mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and EMDR, but I also recognize that every person's story is different. I tailor therapy to your unique needs, whether you're healing from trauma, managing anxiety or depression, navigating grief, or working toward recovery from substance use. My hope is that through our work together, you'll gain confidence in your ability to cope with life's challenges, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, and reconnect with a sense of peace, purpose, and hope. You don't have to face this journey alone—I would be honored to walk alongside you.
