Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Group

Description

Who can attend

This group is open to adults seeking support with anxiety, stress, burnout, or self-critical thoughts. It is especially well suited for individuals who appear high-functioning externally but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected internally. Group members are open to learning skills in a structured, supportive setting while also allowing flexibility to work with what is arising in the moment. Participants must be able to engage in virtual group therapy and commit to a closed group format.

Group focus and structure

The group is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with an emphasis on mindfulness, self-compassion, values clarification, and taking meaningful action. Rather than trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or emotions, participants learn how to relate to them more lightly while staying connected to what matters most. Each session begins with a brief mindfulness practice followed by reflection and group discussion, with space for both a theme of the day and what participants are noticing in real time.

Intake process

Prior to joining, participants complete a brief phone consultation and individual intake to ensure the group is a good fit and to support a thoughtful, safe group process.

What makes this group unique

I bring over a decade of clinical experience across hospital and outpatient settings, including work with Harvard Medical School, and specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, self-compassion, and positive psychology. My approach is evidence-based, warm, and collaborative, with a strong focus on psychological safety. I am deeply committed to creating a group space where vulnerability is met with care, curiosity, and practical tools that participants can continue using long after the group ends.

Group Therapist

Dr. Jennifer Brownstein is a licensed psychologist who works with individuals and groups seeking greater meaning, emotional balance and more fulfilling relationships. Many of the people she works with feel stuck in cycles of anxiety, self criticism, or stress, even while functioning well in other areas of life.

Dr. Brownstein takes an integrative approach to therapy, grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), self compassion, and positive psychology. Rather than focusing solely on diagnoses, she emphasizes the whole person and supports clients in strengthening their internal resources, such as core values, self kindness, and character strengths. Clients who tend to benefit most from her work are curious about their emotional and relational patterns and have a desire for meaningful change.

Dr. Brownstein brings both expertise and warmth to her work, with over a decade of clinical experience across hospital, academic, and private practice settings, including Cambridge Health Alliance and Harvard Medical School. Clients often describe her as curious, attuned, and supportive. She is known for her therapy groups, which focus on building resilience, self compassion, and connection. The group members develop practical tools while feeling less alone with their emotions and self critical thoughts. With her diverse clinical background and compassionate presence, Dr. Brownstein is passionate about helping adults connect more deeply with their values, ignite curiosity, and enhance their overall sense of well being.
