14-week social skills group focused on high functioning individuals needing support to address difficulties with social interactions. The group will focus on reducing social anxiety, increasing self-confidence, and understanding how to connect with supportive friends while avoiding toxic relationships.
Group Therapist
Jonathan Newsum is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Walnut Creek, CA. He works with individuals of all ages, as well as couples and families, providing support across a wide range of emotional and relational challenges.
Jonathan practices from a holistic perspective, recognizing the interconnectedness of emotional, relational, and physical well‑being. His therapeutic approach centers on helping clients deepen their understanding of themselves, develop new ways of responding to life’s challenges, and feel empowered to use therapy as a space for healing, growth, and increased self‑acceptance. Clients learn to identify and shift long‑standing patterns that may contribute to feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Jonathan integrates a variety of evidence‑based modalities to tailor treatment to each client’s needs.
Jonathan earned his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University and brings over 20 years of clinical experience to his work. He has served as a clinical program director, clinical supervisor, and professor, roles that have strengthened his commitment to ethical, thoughtful, and client‑centered care. Jonathan brings warmth, compassion, and seasoned clinical insight to his sessions as he supports clients through their mental health journeys.
