Codependency Art Therapy Support Group

Description

Codependent relationship patterns often lead to feelings of guilt, anxiety, depression and exhaustion. Group art therapy can help you connect with your true self, deeper desires and needs, and cultivate empowerment alongside others who get it. Art making in groups can help you identify deeper thoughts and feelings, making the healing process more dynamic and thorough. You don’t need to have any art experience, interest, or skill to get the most out of art therapy!

This group is good for people who:

- Struggle to know if something is or is not their responsibility

- Find themselves tired from taking care of others

- Struggle to set or keep boundaries

- Feel guilty or anxious about their needs in relationships

Referencing years of experience leading art therapy group and learning about family relationship patterns, attachment theory, and mental illness, I have developed a curriculum of art directives that will dynamically lead participants through stages of personal insight.

Doing this in a group setting will allow you to practice giving and receiving support in a non-codependent way, learn from others who share in your experiences, and be supported by others who know what you're going through! Everything said in group stays in group, so that what is shared can be respected and kept confidential.

You will be notified what art materials are needed for each week by email in advance. I will keep it simple to only a few materials, and can send out suggestions to affordable options upon request.

I hope to see you there!

Group Therapist

Danielle Rhome, MS, ATR, RMHCI, primarily works with adult clients who find themselves in unhealthy relationship patterns where they may feel anxious, avoidant, or indecisive while trying to get close to partners, friends, and family. Many of Danielle’s clients start with reporting feelings of insecurity, embarrassment, hopelessness, helplessness, anxiety, and a pattern of feeling used in relationships. Most do not consider themselves artists when they begin art therapy, but quickly find it helpful to uncover and express thoughts and experiences that are too complicated for words alone.

Danielle’s therapeutic approach blends insight-oriented art therapy, neuroscience-informed art therapy, and skills-based strategies to unpack deeper psychological dynamics that keep people stuck so that they can finally experience what healthy relationships can feel like. She gently guides clients in using creative processes to access emotions and patterns that may be difficult to access or analyze in just talk therapy. As images and symbols emerge in the art, deeper layers of experience surface, supporting meaningful connections between past and present. She integrates concepts from attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, family systems, and interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB). Drawing on contemporary research and the neuroscience of art materials, Danielle thoughtfully selects and constructs interventions tailored to each individual’s needs. At the same time, she teaches practical tools—primarily from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—to develop real-world skills for managing day to day stressors.

Danielle brings a depth of clinical experience primarily from her work in residential treatment with adults facing complex and life-long issues such as trauma, addiction, grief, personality disorders, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and major mood disorders. This background has equipped her to hold space for clients whose challenges may feel overwhelming or long-standing, and to do so with compassion, creativity, and clinical skill.
